With a unique knock that transfixed spectators late on Sunday night, MS Dhoni turned back the clock. It was Dhoni’s first time hitting the bat since winning the IPL trophy as captain last season, and even though Chennai Super Kings were well out of the chase after Delhi Capitals bowled brilliantly in the middle overs, his unbeaten 37 from 16 knocked fans crazy globally. On social media, the old-fashioned jab, meanwhile, set up an incredible fan feud, with many asserting that Dhoni had now “surpassed Sachin Tendulkar in terms of craze and fanbase.”
Axar Patel put on an economical three-over spell, and players like Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, and Betway tormented CSK with cutters and wide yorkers. Delhi was able to rally after Ajinkya Rahane threatened to end the match with his 45-run knock in the 192-run chase.
